Culpepper Could Be Good.
Daunte did have his bright spots last year. He has had more time to work out, and has reportedly lost twenty pounds. He has had a chance to study the playbook more. He has been re-united with his former O-coordinator, Scott Linehan. Linehan coached Culpepper in some of his best years. Culpepper has a wideout that is better than Randy Moss in Calvin Johnson. Daunte also has a lot more experience than any other Lions QB. I say we wait 'til next year to draft a QB, and draft OL and defense this year.

Search for missing people called off.
The search for Lions DE Corey Smith, Raiders LB Marquis Cooper, and William Bleakley has been called off. This is a huge tragedy for the Detroit Lions family, and the Raiders family. Here is a link to see what some people in the Lions organization. http://www.detroitlions.com/document_display.cfm?document_id=482387

Mock Draft
This is more of a list of who I want the Lions to draft than who I think they will draft.
1a. OT Andre Smith, 'Bama
1b. LB Rey Maulaluga, USC(probably won't fall this far)
2. CB Alphonso Smith, Wake Forest
3a. OG Herman Johnson, LSU(might not fall this far)
3b. DT Terrence Taylor, Michigan
4. TE Bear Pascoe, Fresno State
5. QB Curtis Painter, Purdue(possibly a little early)
6a. LB Zach Follet, California
6b. C Jon Cooper, Oklahoma(might not be here)
(Some of these players are picked early, and others on this list wont fall as far as I have them going.)
Then, the Lions would have to hire a free agent WR or two.
This plan would fix at least six problems at several positions.

Steelers Win!
The Steelers won Super Bowl 43. The score was 27-23. A couple of former lions played in it. And Roy Williams thinks the Lions practiced harder than the Cowboys. Time for the Cowboys to update the trading block.

Sorry About My Lack of Posting Lately
I've been needing to study for exams. Anyway, back to Lions News. The Detroit Lions will keep the Thanksgivving game for atleast one more year. Steelers LB Larry Foote wants to sign with Detroit after the '09-'10 season. Foote says he wants to spend 4 years in Detroit. If the Lions do sign him next year, and run the 3-4, the defense would be great.

Weekly Review
Steelers-Ravens: 23-14 Steelers
Cardinals-Eagles: 32-25 Cardinals
The Super Bowl will be Steelers-Cardinals. I'm pickin' the Steelers, because there is NO way Kurt Warner can face Troy Polamalu and the Steelers Defense. The Steelers will own. I guarantee it.

My 1st Super Post!
My thoughts on Schwartz: He could be a good coach, if he sticks to his philosophy(running the ball on offense, stopping the run on defense). That philosophy works for teams like the Titans, Steelers, Ravens, Eagles, Vikings, etc. If he could work with Mayhew to get in his players, I think in 3-5 years, if he and Mayhew live up to their potential, we may be looking at one of the best Lions teams we've ever seen.
4 possible moves for this offseason, and the resulting drafts:
Lions rehire Orlovsky, don't sign free agent OT Jordan Gross:
1,1:OT Andre Smith, 'Bama
1,20:CB Vontae Davis, Illinois
2,1:OG Herman Johnson, LSU
3,1:LB Dannell Ellerbe, Georgia
3,20:WR Brandon Tate, North Carolina(Kick Returner)
4,1:TE Shawn Nelson, So. Miss.
5,1:OG Cedric Dockery, Texas
6,1:QB Curtis Painter, Purdue
6,20:S Lendy Holmes, Oklahoma
Lions sign OT Jordan Gross, don't resign Orlovsky:
1,1:QB Matt Stafford, Georgia
1,20:CB Vontae Davis, Illinois
2,1:OG Herman Johnson, LSU
3,1:LB Dannell Ellerbe, Georgia
3,20:TE Jared Cook, South Carolina
4,1:WR Brandon Tate, North Carolina(Kick Returner)
5,1:OG Cedric Dockery, Texas
6,1:LB Zach Follet, California
6,20:S Lendy Holmes, Oklahoma
Lions sign both Orlovsky & Gross:
1,1:LB Rey Maulaluga, USC
1,20:CB Vontae Davis, Illinois
2,1:OG Herman Johnson, LSU
3,1:TE Cornelius Ingram, Florida
3,20:OG Trevor Canfield, Cincinatti
4,1:CB Londen Fryar, Western Michigan
5,1:LB Tyrone McKenzie, USF
6,1:WR Derek Kinder, Pittsburgh(Kick Return)
6,20:QB Chase Patton, Missouri
Lions don't sign either Gross or Orlovsky:
1,1: OT Andre Smith, 'Bama
1,20:QB Mark Sanchez, USC
2,1:OG Herman Johnson, LSU
3,1:TE Cornelius Ingram, Florida
3,20:CB DeAngelo Smith, Cincinatti
4,1:LB Derek Nicholson, Florida State
5,1:WR Derek Kinder, Pittsburgh(KR)
6,1:LB Zach Follet, California
6,20:QB Chase Patton, Missouri
If the Lions sign DT Albert Haynesworth, or DE Julius Peppers, I don't think it will affect the draft too much. I just don't see them drafting a d-lineman.
Why the Lions should run the 3-4:
The Lions should run the 3-4 because their players fir it. In the 3-4, the OLB's need to be fast, because the 3-4 focuses on the OLB blitz. We have Ernie Sims, and Jordan Dizon, who are 2 very fast OLB's. Then, if they draft a great ILB like Maulaluga or Ellerbe, we'd have a good combo of Lenon and that ILB. Lenon is an underated LB. He lead the Lions in tackles this year, and had 100+ tackles 2 years in a row.
Why the Lions' defense could be good:
The defense is young, and if matched with the right system, they could do great. All they would need to do is draft a good ILB, a good corner, run the 3-4, and get a good d-coordinator.
Why the Lions' offense could be good:
The offense has good players at wideout, and running back. Dan Orlovsky could be good, if he wasn't running for his life on every play. If the Lions just draft OT Andre Smith and OG Herman Johnson, then the O-line would be greatly improved, especially in a year, when Smith and Johnson are in their second years in the NFL.

What The Lions Should Do With The Draft

We should not draft a QB because he would get killed on every pass play. We should save that pick for LT Andre Smith. He would improve the o-line greatly, especially if Jeff Backus was moved to RT, and Gosder Cherilus was moved to RG. Then, the Lions could draft Penn State WR Derrick Williams with pick #20. I know what y'all are thinking, "why another WR", but he could be a great return man. Then, with pick #33, the Lions should draft LSU LG Herman Johnson. That would give us a great o-line, especially in 2 years when the rookies have a year under their belts. "But Beef99, those are all offensive players." Yes, but the defensive side is loaded in this draft. Then, with the 1st pick of the 3rd round, they should draft Georgia LB Dannell Ellerbe. Then they should move Lenon to Strongside LB. With their 2nd 3rd round pick, draft Cincinatti CB DeAngelo Smith. In round 4, they should draft Western Michigan Saftey Louis Delmas. In round 5, draft Missouri QB Chase Daniel. He would add depth. Plus, he was great in college. OR they should draft QB Curtis Painter out of Purdue. Then , in rd. 6, draft a TE, and another LB. That would fix like every problem on this team.

My Worries
When the Lions ended the year, I was exited for the 2 1st rounders, and seeing who they would draft in April. Now every week that goes by, I get more and more worried about how they could mess up yet another draft. Everyone keeps saying they're going to draft Stafford of Bradford, and not draft an o-lineman in the 1st round. I'm expecting them to draft another Joey Harrington at this point. They need to draft Andre Smith 1st overall. And get some good defensive players.
